The Fort Attaway Preservation Society Vision Statement
To protect Rome, Georgia’s Fort Attaway, archaeological site 9FL424, from development (Department of Transportation Project STP-017-3(45): P.I. 620590). To preserve and maintain its remaining original Civil War earthen fortification features by:
(A) Forbidding the use of large equipment development within the boundaries of the remaining area of the fort.
(B) Preventing growth of underbrush.
(C) Reclaiming artifacts by means of strict archaeological methods of collecting: mark and match all artifacts to the locations where they were found, and lend artifacts to a museum, with Rome’s Civil War history in mind, for public viewing.
(D) To present the general public a way to view Fort attaway that will not harm its integrity.
(E) To enter into a protective easement to ensure that Fort Attaway's future is protected.
