January 8, 2007 - Package to Senator Jeff Mullis and Representative
Barbara Massey-Reece:
This package discusses the tourism value of Fort Attaway to the City of Rome's
economy as it will be the first impression of Rome's Civil War sites for
tourists as they enter Rome from the north on the Chickamauga Campaign
Heritage Trail/Hwy 27. It also discusses how the GDOT Project will severely
damage the majestic looking military face of Fort Attaway, and presents, to
Senator Mullis, GDOT documents that prove "Roll-In" construction was an option
back in the early '80's, which would be less costly and would leave Fort
Attaway intact. Also impressive to tourists would be a new bridge that looks
like it is from the Civil War period: a much better value to add to Rome's
economy for the money the GDOT are planning to spend.
