Fort Attaway Web Album (page 2)

There are earthen work fortifications and battle scars all over Desoto Hill. If looked at in order, the pictures below give a tour of Fort Attaway. The pictures start showing the ditches along the railroad tracks then continue up the east side of the military face around to the backside and then to the west side of the military face. Click on the thumbnails for larger pictures.
 

P806. This photo shows two ditches that the railroad filled up to in 1890. We are facing north.

P802. The same two ditches, photo is taken from the railroad tracks. We are facing south.

P769. More ditches and berms on the lower terrace. The size and age of the trees show that this land has not been developed since 1864. We are facing northeast.

P.767 The northern most ditch line. 139 years of dirt and vegetation have filled Fort Attaway's ditches. Facing east.
